Pet Urine & Odor Treatments
For many families, their pets are a vital part of their family
unit. Just like other family members, we normally don’t get rid of
them when they have “accidents.” And while pets can and do provide a
variety of benefits within households, their “accidents” can also
create challenges. Pet urine on carpet, rugs, upholstery or leather
can do much more than cause unpleasant odor.
Pet urine can cause permanent damage to your floors and fabrics. It
can also create an unhealthy indoor environment. When urine is first
deposited onto a floor or fabric, it is in an almost "neutral"
state, which means it is easier to remove when it is fresh. Once it
dries, it turns "alkaline" and becomes more difficult to remove. If
left for days or weeks, depending on the fabric or floor type, it
will permanently change the dye structure, therefore causing
permanent staining. Even if the soluble deposits are removed, the
damage to the dye structure may already be done. This means that no
one can guarantee complete removal of all urine spots. Please
consult with your technician if you have questionable urine spots on
your carpet.
The urine-damaged portion of your carpet may appear to only be a
small spot, but it can actually be much larger on the underside of
the carpet!
Anderson’s pet odor treatments:
1. Minimal Odor Treatment: We can apply a deodorizer/
carpet sanitizer to the carpet. Then the carpets are cleaned with
hot water extraction. This is recommended for the “wet dog” smell.
2. Minor Odor Treatment: In this treatment, where the pet has
urinated on the carpet, an odor eating enzyme will be applied
directly to carpet. This breaks down the urine salts trapped deep in
the carpet fibers. Once the enzymes have time to dwell, hot water
extraction is done with a special tool that penetrates from carpet,
pad, to concrete. Once this treatment is preformed a deodorizer and
carpet sanitizer is applied. Then the carpets are cleaned with hot
water extraction.
3. Severe Odor Treatment: In this treatment, we pull the
affected carpet up and completely clean and sanitize the carpet and
backing. The padding is pulled and discarded. New padding is
purchased and is installed along with the freshly cleaned carpet. In
severe cases where the concrete is stained, the concrete is washed
with a sanitizer and after drying is then sealed. This is a very
extensive treatment but it ensures we get to the source. This
treatment is guaranteed to remove the odor from the flooring. There
may be cases when the walls and baseboards are contaminated
preventing us from guaranteeing the removal. We will advise you in
advance.
